Not News

So I came across a link Wednesday, on the front page of Yahoo no less, to an article about a study touting the fact that the more you weigh the worse your gas mileage will be. I've got to admit, I found this to be mildly surprising and annoying, as I'm not sure how this qualifies as 'research'. But I let it go. Then yesterday driving in to work and driving home two different radio stations were going on about it. Oh, the research shows! What research? It's a basic law of nature, the more something weighs, the more fuel it will take to propel it.

I'm not sure why this study bothers me, but I think it has to do with the fact that it's a study into something so obvious. I mean, did anyone really consider this news? Oh my, we're burning more fuel today on average because we're all 25 pounds heavier on average too, what a surprise! Gee, I guess if I put down the cookies and go for a walk I can save some fuel. Sorry, not a surprise folks and certainly not news worthy research. We really do have too much time on our collective hands.
